Christmas Message from Branch Secretary

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR – A message from branch Secretary Peter Crews.

We are sending you our best wishes for Christmas and New Year.

2018 has been real struggle for many of our members. Wages in real terms have fallen as you have had to carry the burden of the Westminster Government’s public sector austerity measures. You have seen jobs disappear and then you are asked to pick up the extra work.

It is right that we acknowledge that while lots of staff will be at home for Christmas, New Year with family and or friends, many of our members will have to work. For these staff who will receive very little compensation for their commitment and professionalism. THANK YOU.

These are the staff who will make sure the most vulnerable in our communities are well looked after and that safety on highways, buildings etc. are being dealt with.  The list of staff and types jobs are too numerous to mention.

Your UNISON Branch is going from strength to strength, as we have seen a slowdown in recruitment within public services and redundancy measures, but this Branch still retains its position as the biggest Local Government Branch in Wales and growing. The fight to defend our members and their families will continue and I must record my thanks to all those UNISON members who have given time and commitment and became Stewards, Health & Safety Representatives and Workplace Contacts throughout 2018 you are the bedrock of our union. I hope you will continue with your support throughout 2019.

I must record my special thanks to all our officers and members of the Branch committee, they have been a great support to me throughout the year, without their support I would not be able to have to be elected as The UNISON Regional Convenor for Wales. THANK YOU.

It would be wrong of me not to remind all our members, you are the union, you are Unison, if you would like some information on becoming a Unison representative then please contact the office.

Peter Crews: UNISON Branch Secretary.
